recently, the project of sail technology demonstration, application and development declared by the leader dsic has been officially approved for an enrolment into the national scientific research plan for high-tech ships by miit(ministry of industry & information technology) and ministry of finance, which marks that dsic technical research on vlcc energy saving and emission reductionhas stepped into the new stage of wind power utilization, and created the favorable conditions for building up a new generation of vlcc and sustaining the market competitiveness. to ensure this project to accomplish on schedule and meet the anticipated target, csic department of science & technology has recently held the kickoff meeting for the project of sail technology demonstration, application and developmentin dalian, where dsic deputy gm guo chengxin, the persons in charge and experts from csic department of science & technology and relevant participating units attended the meeting.
at the kickoff meeting, mr. guo chengxin gave a brief introduction to the process and significance of project initiation while the design institute reporting the project implementation program.and then, csic department of science & technology presented the measures for project administration and follow-up work arrangement. also, the relevant participating units showed one after another that the powerful r&d teams shall be further set up so as to strongly support the project planning and fulfillment, strictly execute the project management requirement and ensure to complete the task with high quality.
dsic shall take a lead for this project, uniting the strongest domestic scientific research strength and famous universities, such as csic no. 702 institute, dalian university of technology, dalian maritime university, ccs, csname as well as china merchants energy transport co., ltd. to conduct a joint research. this project shall, based on new requirements of international conventions for ship energy saving and environment protection technology, through study of new-style sail driven m/e hybrid power propulsion technology, take vlcc as target shiptype, so as to get hold of key technology on sail design, manufacture and application, accomplish the sail engineering application on larger tankers, and achieve the target of above 12% reduction of average daily fuel oil consumption per single ship at the same index of speed.
