on sep.7, 2016, the ultra large container ship (ulcs) jointly developed by dsic and us-based ge has acquired aip approval from lloyd’s register of shipping (lr).
this new design is to deploy aero-gas turbine as a core power system, and based on combined propulsion of coges, takes lng as basic fuel. to compare with a ship of the same size driven by a conventional dual fuel diesel engine, this design can comply with the most stringent tier iii standard in nox and sox emission directly, without installation of any post treatment equipment. there is leakage of methane with an increase of abt. 4% container capacity. the light weight decreases by abt. 3000 tons with an advantage of flexibility and convenience in comprehensive arrangement. meanwhile, no ignition oil is required for its power system, lower in lub oil consumption and less in spare quantity. the gas efficiency is almost equivalent to that of dual fuel diesel engine, which has raised the comprehensive economy of ship operation substantially. in addition, the intelligent level and reliability of power-system core engines have been enhanced greatly, which has laid an important foundation to achieve intelligence and unmannedness on board. the primary development achievement of new container ship achieved by dsic is another critical headway towards green, smart and cutting-edge products.
the coges power system adopted by this new design is based on the same core engine as aero engine-gas turbine, which is under a deep integration of aviation industrial technology and marine technology, featuring in light weight, high power density and flexible arrangement, etc. based on 20000teu cv actually contracted by dsic, this new design is a new technical innovation and progress accomplished by dsic team, ge team and guohong team following the technology of coges driven lng carrier already worked out. the tripartite development team has invited lr for in-depth risk analysis and drawing review during their development, and finally acquired its aip approval.
the development of this new design is a concrete embodiment in dsic’s developing tenet of “inherit the century-old foundation and build the world first- class shipyard” and development target of “set up the domestic leading and world first-class assembly shipyard”, where the leading enterprises have been further united so as to enhance technical innovation and tie-up, furnish shipping industry with more environmental, more economic, more reliable and more intelligent products, thereby help its shipping partners to improve their core competence.
the main technical indicators of 20288 teu container ship powered by coges are as follows:
total teu capacity 20,288teu
main dimensions: 399.8m x 58.6m x 30.6m
type b lng bunker 19,000m³
design speed 22 knots
