(china national broadcasting network)the fourth 10,000teu container vessel “cscl bohai sea” which was developed, designed and built independently by our country was successfully delivered by dalian shipbuilding industry co., ltd (“dsic”) on 9th june. the vessel completed “flushing for m/e lub oil pipe” in the dock for the first time. the underwater construction cycle was 59 days, which is comparable to that of korea’s similar products. the trial trip and delivery cycles of the project are the shortest among similar series of vessels. so far, the shipbuilding contract of the four 10,000teu container vessels made and entered into between dsic and china shipping (group) company has already been completed as scheduled with performance and quality of the product being highly appraised by ship owners.
the 10,000teu container vessel is the most popular high-tech and high value-added type of vessel in today’s ship market. this type of vessel is favored by shipping giants home and abroad thanks to its large carrying capacity and rapid speed. however, due to the great shipbuilding difficulties, rigorous technical requirements and complicated process, the building of such a type of vessel has always been monopolized by shipbuilding companies from europe, u.s.a, japan or korea. dsic, driven by its transformation and upgrading strategy, has set its sight on r&d and manufacturing of this type of vessel, broken the monopoly of overseas shipbuilding plants and created lots of new records for shipbuilding in china.
dsic started its preliminary r&d and design of the 10,000teu container vessel from 2009. after systematic preparation concerning hull form and technologies, dsic achieved a substantial breakthrough in 2011 by successfully signing the shipbuilding contract of 4 ultra-large container vessels with china shipping (group) company. from then on, dsic became the first shipbuilding and assembly enterprise that owns the proprietary intellectual property rights and has the ability to build ultra-large container vessels.
